Bert Lahr's Fighting 343rd

I was disgusted to read recently about the dozen or so Army Reservists serving in Iraq that refused to carry out an order because it was “too dangerous”. It is a sad state affairs when our uber-sensitive society bleeds into the military. Where would we be today if the brave men that stormed the beaches of Normandy decided they weren’t going participate because of the danger?

Arguably, many people today join the military in order to accrue marketable skills or to finance their college education. It’s as if the olive green drab is simply a fashion annoyance on the way to becoming something else. The bottom line when men and women join the military is that it IS a military, whose only function is to protect the citizens of this country. The technical training is great, but if one can’t muster the fortitude to carry out the missions during war, perhaps a technical school would be more their speed.
